Hello, my name is Luke Draper and I’m the owner of Techs On The Side as well as the Technology Director for a large organization here in Fresno, CA. Because of what I do; I get regular calls from friends and family seeking some type of computer help, and I can't count how many times I've been referred by them to one of their friends or family desperate because their computer is broken. They’ve had a horrible experience with the Geek Squad, Office Depot, or some guy on craigslist and they don’t know where else to go, so they call me. How can i blame them...
You can't trust just anyone with your computer these days
With so many horror stories about the Geek Squad miss-diagnosing problems that cost someone $100's of dollars, or claimed the customer’s data was gone forever and they needed a new computer. Or how people wait weeks to get their computer fixed and had to keep calling to see if it was ready only to get down there and discover their problem still existed. Or how they bought one of the “extended warranties” and when they go to use it the problem isn’t covered!
Search for Geek Squad on Google and you'll find reports of technicians copying customer files for their use, installing hidden software to steal information or watch what you do online.
Don’t get me started on all the disasters I’ve been asked to clean up after someone’s “cousins, uncle’s, brother” worked on their computer. It still amazes me that people are willing to risk their personal property and irreplaceable pictures and files to some self-proclaimed “geek” or “nerd” they found on craigslist.
Computer repair is not a commodity…
and it never will be. Computer technicians are not all created equal. If they were then those with the lowest price would win. The guy on craigslist willing to fix anything and everything wrong with your computer for $20 would only have to post once a month because he wouldn’t be able to keep up with the flood of work.
How does Geek Squad stay in business?
Because they have the illusion of being a safe place to get computer repair. After all, they are owned by one of the largest electronics retailers in the country. Unfortunately the Geek Squad is so big they can’t provide good customer service or even mediocre quality control.
Enough is Enough!
For years I sat on the fence, wondering how I can do something about the lack of good computer repair in Fresno. So in the summer of 2009 I decided to start building the framework for a computer repair and services business that included everything that I thought was missing from all the other existing options. I did research by giving away free services in exchange for answers to surveys. In these surveys I discovered the qualities clients wanted, and expected, when having their computer repaired. I created, tested, and refined, very specific processes and procedures to ensure consistent high quality repairs, then decided to back it all up with a powerful guarantee that no one else would dare to make.

I never thought this was a new concept, but I’m still surprised how many businesses can't get it right.
